I just saw an advert on TV for a finance company (like that's never happened before). And it suddenly struck me that these adverts are what's wrong with modern commercial television. Why do just these adverts have to be so crap? They should either make all other adverts as crap, or make these ones better. I vote for the second option.
I can just imagine it now - a generic note (as in £5, £10, £20, etc.), looking very hungry, and running after some guy in loads of debt. "Is your debt eating you up? No problem, we can provide you with the perfect meal for it!"
Coins falling on someone's head. "Is your debt raining down on you every minute of your life? We are the umbrella you're looking for. No leakage or anything!"
See, why can't they put some imagination into these adverts? I think I speak for the whole world (pretty much, at least) when I say that seeing terrible actors read some script about the tortures of debt off a board in a studio made to look somewhat like a house doesn't make anyone want to get a loan. And just in case you don't know what I'm talking about, look out for the latest Greenhill Finance advert now being shown way too often on almost all channels.
